At Kährs, sustainability goes beyond flooring products. We produce wood pellets from the byproducts of wood flooring production at our sites in Nybro, Sweden, and Satulung, Romania, transforming waste into renewable energy.

Harnessing Waste for Renewable Energy

Kährs manufactures CO2-neutral, fossil fuel-free wood pellets from wood shavings and sawdust. These pellets help generate renewable energy, and the energy from these pellets would otherwise emit around 85,000 tons of CO2 if sourced from fuel oil.

A Pioneering Investment in Sustainability

In 2019, we invested in a new pellet production facility in Nybro, built using reused materials. The facility’s capacity is 60,000 tons of pellets annually. The pellet presses are repurposed CPM presses from the closed pellet factory in Storuman, and the pellet cooler comes from Bühler.

For decades, Kährs has been providing energy in the form of wood powder for district heating in the region, and this new facility has allowed us to further refine our byproducts into valuable biomass energy.

Climate Neutral and Certified Biomass

Kährs’ wood pellets are certified by the Sustainable Biomass Program (SBP) and, in 2022, received the Swedish Energy Agency's Sustainability Statement for all biofuels. This ensures that the pellets meet high sustainability standards, promoting a clean, renewable energy source.
