A mark of quality in the flooring industry

Kährs in Sweden is an authorized flooring supplier. The Swedish Flooring Trade Association (GBR) enables suppliers in the flooring industry to demonstrate their environmental and quality commitments through an authorization tailored for companies selling flooring materials on the Swedish market.

The authorization helps buyers set relevant environmental and sustainability requirements from a holistic perspective and ensures sustainable flooring throughout the chain—from supplier to contractor. The criteria are based on the UN Sustainable Development Goals and ISO 26000, and are tailored to be relevant specifically to flooring installations. The authorization requires an external audit approved by GBR.

The Forest Stewardship Council is an independent, non-governmental organization (founded in 1994) that sets globally recognized standards for responsible forest management. Its certification helps businesses and consumers choose products that support sustainable forestry. FSC forest management certification confirms forests are managed to protect biodiversity, respect communities and workers, and remain economically viable. Operations must follow rigorous principles—covering high conservation values, workers’ rights, community relations, and ongoing monitoring—while chain of custody tracks certified material from forest to finished floor.

Kährs only sources wood products and timber from responsible sources in compliance with the key timber regulations. Our due diligence system ensures that all wood is sourced legally and is not originating from controversial sources. The wellbeing of the world’s forests is of great importance to Kährs and we support the responsible forestry development by prioritizing wood that meets the requirements set by FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council® license FSC-C019122) and/or PEFC (Program for Endorsement of Forest Certification license PEFC/05-35-153) chain of custody certification schemes.

The Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) is a global alliance of national forest certification systems that promotes responsible forest management through independent third-party certification.

PEFC was established in 1999 in response to the specific requirements of small- and family forest owners as an international umbrella organisation providing independent assessment, endorsement and recognition of national forest certification systems. Today, PEFC is the world’s largest forest certification system by number of certificates issued.
